On Tuesday, November 8th (Election
Day) I tried walking in with a basket of candy, a smile on my face and
our little messages of love at the polls and we were frowned upon. Told we couldn’t
be there promoting any party. We told them why we were there but they
said despite being non-partisan we needed to leave. We were told to ask
the County Clerk for permission to be there. She told us we could stand
outside but we couldn’t actually approach anyone. Although, frustrated at first we came to a greater understanding of the wisdom and compassion of their request.
So later that
afternoon, disappointment but not defeated, I walked around our small
Town Square to hand out candy and spread love on that very anxiety
filled day.
So days after the Election, that ache in our hearts and tummies just hasn’t gone away. Our nation is struggling.
“Coming together is the beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.”
– Henry Ford
This message of love couldn’t be more relevant. With our country in a divide we stand in fear of one another. Separateness has never served us and it never will.
In Teton County, we stand together on Wednesday, November 16th with ALL community members for Together We Stand: Community Forum on Immigration. We stand together as ONE community to show our solidarity and unity by meeting with one another at 6 – 7:30 pm at Hansen Hall in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 170 North Glenwood Jackson, Wyoming. There will be a Q&A on immigration issues.
We are proud to show our support and spread this message of love among our entire nation, because fear divides us and weakens us and love unifies us and makes us stronger.
