We Are in This Together
I am here to remind you that you are not alone in this. The Election Day is just days away and we are all feeling the thick soup in the air. The global pandemic is looming, the climate is changing, the days are shorter, it’s getting colder outside, by far the most important Election in decades, racial unrest, feeling all couped up at home and in a lot of ways feeling alone in this. That is truly the furthest from the truth.
Ten Percent Happier has an Election Sanity Challenge with a series of talks and guided meditations to help us find calmness during Election Day. The intention is to help get through this in a way that will help be kind to ourselves, to take a break away from the news and social media, ground in our breath and get to work to keep ourselves steady. JoAnna Hardy introduces Metta which means “loving-kindness” – sending unconditional love to ourselves and to others. At a time like this, it’s challenging to practice sending this loving-kindness to someone that we don’t agree with politically. JoAnna doesn’t want you to ignore your views or diminish them but to use your “fierce love” to get through this time.
Consider a practice like JoAnna’s Metta meditation to get through this and create change through loving-kindness. Bringing these uncomfortable relationships to the forefront can be a way to let go of this “hold” they may have on you. This practice can help our minds and hearts be free of that energy that doesn’t serve us and allows for space of peace and ease within.
This US verses THEM is not serving any of us. I hope you find peace and ease in this time of great uncertainty. You are not alone. I urge utilizing healthy tools that will help cultivate calmness during Election Day in a tumultuous time.
We can see the truth in how we feel and acknowledge in that energy and emotion. We can learn to allow for that energy to exist but also allow ourselves to put it down and not lug it around for too long.
Take care of yourself and let’s lighten the load.
