With the COVID-19 pandemic among us we are all staying put and advised to practice “social distancing.” A recent podcast episode on WBUR OnPoint NPR points out the funny thing about that phrase is that it’s more like we need to physically distance but we can still be socially and emotionally connected and now it’s more important than ever.
An excellent practice of compassion can be to write to someone that truly needs it. Right now the elderly (the most vulnerable to COVID-19) are feeling even more isolated than ever before. A dad called into this podcast interview sharing him and his family come together to write letters/cards to a retirement home in order to help lift spirits.
I am hopeful that our bond as humans will grow deeper and that we will find one another again through this difficult time. We need each other in a profound way. When I hear the Italians singing from their balconies in unison due to the virus outbreak I am reminded what’s truly important.
With the state of the nationals all over the world we need to know what to do with it. COVID-19 is bringing forth so much uncertainty. Children can’t go to school anymore, most people can’t go to work, businesses are closed, concerts and events are cancelled.
Since we are all in fact in this together there is a sense of community and connection despite the social distancing let’s harness this energy by doing something kind for others.
